Whether your facility is made of wood, brick or stone, termites can find a
way inside. They construct shelter tubes through foundation cracks and
expansion joints, around plumbing and other penetrations, along the slab
exterior, behind stucco and veneer, and anywhere wood meets the ground.
Knowing what to look for can be difficult, which is why the expertise is so important.

Termite Swarmers
and/or Discarded Wings
Probably the only time
you will actually see live termites is when they "swarm." Subterranean
termites usually swarm in the early spring. If a large number of swarmers
(winged or flying termites) or their discarded wings are found inside a building, it’s
a sure sign of a termite infestation.

How to Tell Winged Termites from Flying Ants

Mud Tubes and/or
Tunnels
Because termites prefer dark, moist conditions, foraging worker termites construct
mud tubes as protective runways from the earth to the wood inside a
building. Look for mud tubes along the foundation, around doors and windows
and on wood posts.

Small Holes in Wood or Drywall or Blistered Paint
When termites swarm they
often create small exit holes in walls and wood surfaces. Because termites
eat wood products from the inside out, they usually hollow the wood along
the grain. This can cause ripples in the exterior of the wood, or cause the
paint to blister. Termites will also eat the paper off of drywall but leave
the paint behind. This can cause a slight dimpling of the wall surface.
Structural Damage
This could include soft spots in walls, sagging floors, loose trim and cracked plaster. Also, check for "hollow" sounding or brittle wall studs.
